Tramadol is a prescription pain medication classified as an opioid analgesic. It is commonly used to treat moderate to moderately severe pain, such as that resulting from surgery, chronic conditions (like arthritis or back pain), or injury. Tramadol works by changing how your brain and nervous system respond to pain, helping to reduce the discomfort you feel without eliminating the cause of the pain itself.

Unlike stronger opioids, Tramadol has a dual mechanism of action:
